Thanks for the Eisenhower quote, it's a gem.A lot of the painnlng and preparation that goes into a good BC/DR strategy can be re-used into moving into the cloud. What are the service level requirements of different services? Mission critical versus best effort, network requirements, data management requirements, security requirements, all of these questions are part of the cloud strategy as well. So painnlng for the cloud could also be concurrent with reviewing and updating your BC/DR strategy (which should be reviewed and updated on a regular basis anyway). I would also think that the cloud would be an ideal place to test drive fail-over scenarios. It's one thing to have a DR plan, it's quite another to test it out. At BNR we used to do Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA); these were thought experiments with your key designers and architects. You could not predict all the failure modes, but you could get most of them, and if you dealt with those appropriately, they would also cover a high proportion of the un-expected failures. Inevitably there would be a an event not covered, but this exercise provided enough of a framework that a solution was fairly quick to implement.
